This Made Me Feel A Little Better

You all have to be sick of me talking about him every third post, but goddammit, this is good shit.

"I send money to NPR, I support them, but it's UNLISTENABLE RADIO. When did conservatives steal rock and roll from us? All the AM radio stations, nothing but racist, facist douchebags, all their break music is this blasty-ass, gutbucket rock and roll. Bill O'Reilly will play the White Stripes for God's sake! Then you turn over to NPR and their break music is a sad, lonely saxophone echoing through a sewer pipe somewhere. When did that happen? Play some Zeppelin, for God's sake!" - Patton Oswalt

Interesting definition of "fascist" he's got there. Maybe I should send him a dictionary.

"a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition"

Tell me we're not living about 2 steps from that. Go ahead.

Be fair though: the mainstream conservative talk shows (O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, etc) are not espousing government control of anything, nor do they (or the current administration, for that matter) appear to want forcible suppression of opposition. Hell, Limbaugh revels in the stuff they (the left) say.

I don't doubt there are some really lunatic nutbars out there. In fact, I know there are. But he's painting O'Reilly with the same brush he'd use on some crackpot broadcasting on WKKK. It seems clear he's never actually LISTENED to the show and he's engaging in stereotyping. And as we all know, stereotyping is baaad, mmm'kay?

Sorry to hear you missed the Louisville clinic, too. I ended up working too late and had family stuff to do in the evening.

NPR actually plays some incredibly hip shit in their interludes. Medeski, Martin & Wood; Richard Thompson (once, French Frith kaiser & Thompson's 'Bird in God's Garden'); Raymond Scott all over the place; I dunno if they busted out any John Zorn this past week in note of Zorn's winning the Macarthur (sp?) Foundation Genius Grant or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Now get well so we can make that trip to St. Louis for the new Keneally trio ass-kicking.
