Still Fuckin' Awake
03.03.07 (12:10 am) [edit]Dammit. I need to be up and moving early tomorrow, drive north for students and a gig.
Instead, I've listened to Yogi and Trance-Fusion, gone through old pictures and put a few on my myspace page.
There's no reason to hide the fucking thing anymore, and most of you know where it is anyway.

A couple of you will see yourself in my top friends. Don't get excited. I change that every few days. I probably don't like you THAT much.
I change my profile song every day or so too. Tonight it's a song from Eraserhead. Seems appropriate for some reason.
You'll also note the new blog entry there, with links to several mp3s. Most of which I'v eposted here already, but now they're all in one place.
Now I'm gonna listen to the Ultimate Spinach box set and try to make myself tired.
Love,
Dougie

Now I'm back to Zappa. Broadway The Hard Way. Fuck the "it's too political" naysayers right in thier rusty bungholes, I LOVE this album. Any Kind Of Pain is in my top five favorite guitar solos in the history of anything.

Not a big fan of Myspace, but paid your page a wee visit anyway.
LOVED Requiem. A beautiful piece of music, indeed. Any chance we'll get to hear any of your live improvisational stuff?
Keep 'em coming!

Thank you very much. Requiem was written for Keneally but has more to do stylistically with two other Mike's - Hedges and Manring, since I was deep into them at the time. I'm very proud of the thing. I've always regarded that recording as a bit sloppy, but it has a lot of heart behind it, I feel.
The improv stuff needs to be recorded. The couple times I've tried I havne't cared for the end result, but I'll go for that again sometime soon. I need to really re-evaluate my harmonic ideas right now thoguh, because I feel I've lost a lot of what I used to have doing that stuff. Of the three I did at my gig a couple weeks back, I thought two of them made for good atmosphere, but weren't as interesting harmonically as they could have been. The third one was more or less shit, though it actually started rather well. I need to do this more often at home and work through some of the modal ideas I used to do - I'm just out of practice, and I doubt it'll take long to get back up to speed.
