Memories Of Old Days
05.03.07 (11:58 pm) [edit]
My band about 11 years ago. Me and the singer are the only remaining members. I love this pic. We were pretty left-field back then, played a lot of weird shit, and almost never got gigs. I miss the raw purity of those days, but not the lack of money. :)
Love,
Doug

This is a fabulous picture - thanks for sharing! It is exactly what I imagine when thinking of a rock band starting out. The days when anything was possible because you believed in the music (and perhaps a couple of side benefits?). Which rock god are you in the pix?

I'm the one down low with the Jazz bas copy. (My cousin owns that bass now.) It was an interesting time. Lots of '60s psychedelic covers. I used to play heavilly distorted bass solos - we'd do a version of Tobacco Road with me making the most godawful noises, cycling through various modes, going on for five minutes sometimes.
Those were the side benefits. I never got laid from being in a band until very recently. :)

Really? - most band members get some benefits (unless you live in a Winnebego on the outskirts of a town with the population of 125 - even though it's still plausible). Aha - or, of course, you were in a relationship.
So you mean to tell me a lot of the bands I talk to, are lying about their fringe benefits?

I have no idea if they are lying. Truth is, I'm abysmal at starting anything with a woman, I've got fear and self-loathing issues like a motherfucker, and I lost my virginity at TWENTY-FUCKING-FIVE to a woman I worked with.
OK, she came and watched the band practice one night and I thought she was going to break her neck later on in the evening when she went down on me. So I got SOME "benefits" from it, just not from women who knew me FIRST from being the idiot bass player with a distortion pedal and massive ego problems. LOL

LOL - Well, I have it on good authority (from many men I have met through the course of my involvement with Swanktrenz, that as they get older, they are more inclined to 'fess up' to having been a virgin well into their twenties. Unfortunately, mens' competitve nature promotes an air of exaggeration and the sins of omissions.

Good to hear, As long as you are open about these self-projected, loathing issues, you will be elevated in a woman's view. Women do not mind (and live to rescue, and nurture, and validate) any man who has had esteem issues. (We are a also a masochistic group)
I would love to hear how many trysts were rejected by YOU, because of your assumption that the gal wouldn't want to be exposed to (and disappointed by) your emotional detonation.)

I doubt any. Shit, me turn down pussy? You must be kidding. LOL
But I have found out a few times that I'm utterly desne and inattentive and there's been women who were interested in me and I assumed they weren't. And of course, I didn't find out until it was too late. THAT shit sucks.

Hey - you should post the pic I sent you of us at the Vincennes show from '93. I'm sure I have our promo pic around here somewhere.
