Bring Back The Draft

10.17.04 (1:26 am)   [edit]
Well, looks like we're back into stupid non-issues on the campaign trail.

Kerry's bitching about the possibility of a draft. Now Bush says if you vote for HIM there won't be a draft. WHO GIVES A FUCK? Can we deal with RIGHT NOW? Can we deal with things that we KNOW will happen in the future if we keep going this way? Can we talk about soldiers dying NOW, Iraq being a shithole of our own creation NOW, the jobs being lost and the kids getting substandard education NOW? The very real future consequences of our actions NOW? Yeah, we might have a draft. We might ALSO have bunch of Islamic terrorists killing people in fucking shopping malls, you idiots. You know, like what happens in Israel, but obviously won't EVER happen here in good ol' God Bless America. Get your goddamn priorities straight, people.

I've got an unpopular opinion on this draft issue. BRING IT BACK. Maybe if we bring it back, the ignorant inbred morons in this country who get all their news from network TV or Rush Limbaugh might take a war more SERIOUSLY. If it's about your kids too and not just the neighbor's kids, maybe you'll PAY ATTENTION when some cocksucker from Texas starts a stupid war. I GUARANTEE you that if there was a draft RIGHT NOW, Bush wouldn't stand a chance in November, even with all of Karl Rove's minions and all the fixed electronic voting machines in Florida. People tend to read just a little bit more when they think death is going to hit them right in the goddamn face. They tend to CARE more. They tend to think that a war should be WORTH something.

You want to get those 18-25 year old voters in? Tell them that there's no more trips to Starbucks for a fuckin' latte. They're going to WAR. That'll get the fuckers to vote, when it DIRECTLY AFFECTS THEM. Nobody apparantly gives two fucks anymore about anything that isn't hitting them directly in the face. If people are getting blown to shit halfway across the world, why the fuck should I care? If some guy is about to kill himself because he lost his job, has no medical insurance, his kids contracted AIDS from a rabid pit bull, and he has to sell his weakened sperm downtown to pay the rent...oh, who gives a fuck? It's not me.

Americans are greedy, ignorant, selfish pricks. So am I. And it disgusts me. So FUCK our precious security blanket. Bring back the goddamn draft. And don't leave one single opportunity for a loophole out of it. FUCK those rich kids. Let's send a couple senator's children over there. Then you'll see some shit clear right up. Then maybe some of these dumbfuck Republicans might think "You know what? I DO care if a president lies about his reasons for going to war." Since half or nearly half this country is apparantly still so goddamn stupid and blind to think they're "safer" with Bush in the White House (ARE YOU PEOPLE GODDAMN FUCKING INSANE??? Will you people fucking READ for Christ's sake?) then let's show 'em how safe we really are. A draft isn't going to mean anything unless there's a war, so what the fuck? Stop blaming the politicians for trying to keep enough troops out there to fight a war, and start blaming them for THE FUCKING WAR.

Well your views are slightly lacking but you are still entitled to your opinion. My 18 year old volunteered to join the Army AFTER the war started. My 23-year old DOES love his latte at Starbucks and deserves it. He works his ass off every day for it. So everyone 18-25 doesn't expect everything handed to them. I have seen less maturity in 40 year olds then both my sons have. I am thankful of one thing though, neither of them find much sense or maturity in ranting with the *F* word. I for one think war should be a CHOICE. My youngest just wrote home today that he is now on the VOLUNTEER list for IRAQ. However it was a choice that he emlisted. I do not believe anyone regardless of age should be forced to go to war. This is supposed to be a free country remember? You spoke of 18-25 year olds. After reading your post, I have to wonder......how old are you?

Doug,
As everybody knows, did everything I could to AVOID the draft back in Viet Nam. I hate the draft. So why would I ever support a draft? This is just another attempt by my opponent to raise your taxes. Vote for me Doug and I'll wash your car.

Of course, I wanted to add, I am taking your post completely serious and hope that is how you intended it to be. If you aren't serious, I bet you think I should have my head examined for thinking you are. Well, that probably wouldn't hurt me any either. (will my insurance cover that, hmmmmm)

I'm serious up to a point. I don't really think there should be a draft. But I think a bad, stupid war is a worse thing. There wouldn't be any talk of a draft without this damn war. I just wish people would take more seriously the fact that people are DYING for what at best are vague, poorly-considered reasons, and what at worst is outright imperialism and evil. I hate this fucking war, and I hardly consider myself a pacifist. I'm all for killing Bin Laden. Fuck that guy. String him up and disembowel him with a salad fork live on network TV. But unlike Un-Curious George, I can sorta tell the difference between Arabs, and I know how to read a map. Saddam Hussein didn't look like Bin Laden to me. He looked like a shithead two-bit dictator. He was NOT a good reason to divert our attention from the true problems facing us, and he was NOTa threat to us. Period. End of story. I can prove this on an Etch-A-Sketch.

You want "choice" in soldiers going to war? I recently discovered that a cemetery a few miles from where I grew up has some distant relatives in it. It's a Quaker cemetery. And there are quite a few Civil War soldiers there. Quaker soldiers. You know, the people woho don't believe in war. At that time, with a lot of issues about concientious objectors (you can read up on it, I'm too tired to go into detail) there were young men whose religion was clearly against war, but they decided that slavery was worse. (I'm descended from Quakers who moved west in the early 1800s almost solely to be away from areas that allowed slavery, and one of the preachers of that time predicted the Civil War 60 years before it happened.) I think that's highly honorable. Defending your country is honorable. But there was nothing in Iraq to defend us from. It's BULLSHIT. That's not the fault of the soldiers or those of us back home who had to watch this happen. But if we allow the cocksucker who led us into this war to have another four years, we're going to have far worse things to contend with than a draft, and we may very well NEED one seeing as how all our troops are over there. What the hell happens if shit goes down badly in North Korea? What happens if Bush's "fight them abroad so we don't have to face them here at home" plan turns out to be utterly insane and we DO have to face them here? I don't think those assholes who stockpile guns in their basement waiting for Jesus to return are going to be enough. And seeing as how the states have so little money that there's now fewer cops on the street, that's going to affect things too. Hell, the cops here in Cincinnati might not even get to shoot black people anymore. How fucked up is THAT? We might need those guys who are currently trying to keep their asses from getting shot off in Fallujah. Fuck Iraq, let's go to where THE REAL TERRORISTS ARE.

You said "FUCK Iraq, let's go to where THE REAL TERRORISTS ARE." and my first thought was "The Oval Office"? I think I've lived with you too long :)

There was a bill in Congress to bring back the draft. My congressman was one of two in the nation to vote for it. He felt that if people had to send their own kids whether they liked it or not, they'd have to give serious thought over whether this war is necessary.
